Welcome to the General Byng Library Page!
A Page From the Library
With a hop, skip and a ski jump we’re off to the Olympics! The Olympics is this year’s I Love to Read theme……whereby we will be combining Olympicish activities with reading…….In keeping with our theme, we will be jumping into “just read” where all the students and teachers will stop what they’re doing and read…….the signal to jump into reading will be Van Halen’s “Jump” and the signal to stop will tie in to the Olympic believe theme with Glee’s rendition of Journey’s “Don’t stop believing”. We will also be continuing with our ever popular snippet segment with Mr. Tamblyn reading favourites during morning announcements. All classes will have the opportunity to guess from which book the snippet comes and a winner will be drawn daily. Do you know your significant other’s favourite picture book from when they were young(er than they are now)?
Once again we are pleased to be welcoming our MLA Kerri Irvin-Ross who will be reading to the K-4 classes on Feb. 5. A fun time is had by all as we share favourite books….hers and ours. Last year she especially liked Chip wants a Dog by William Wegman.
A variety of activities will be going on in individual classrooms such as reading our way to Vancouver, dressing up as a favourite story character, wearing a t-shirt with writing on it……. To help you celebrate at home, a calendar has been included with ideas to celebrate reading.
If children…
· See you read
· Are given the time to read
· Are encouraged to talk about books
· Discover a book that they love
--------they will read
-------and look for more books to love.
